Ann needs to recover DELETE folder...
Monday, July 21, 2008, 09:28 PM

Dear Ann:

You will need to print the following instructions.

The Deleted Items folder may be corrupted. For a corrupted Deleted
Items folder:
- Close Outlook Express.
- OE5+: Locate the file Deleted Items.dbx in the mail directory and
delete it. You can use Start, Find (or Search), Files or Folders,
"Deleted Items.dbx" to find it. On Win2000 you need enable the display
of Hidden or System files in the folder options and XP you need to use
the advanced options to find Hidden or System files. (You can also
determine the location by looking in OE at Tools, Options, Maintenance,
Store Folder.)
- Open Outlook Express again. It will create a new empty Deleted Items.

This assumes that there is nothing in the Deleted Items folder that you
need. If you do, instead of deleting the Deleted Items.dbx file (OE5+),
rename it to something else, such as deleteold.dbx. Then use the
following program to try and recover messages from it.
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

Yes, you can do this... slowly and follow each detail. You'll be fine.

Let me know...
Cheers

Lucille wants to remove .vcf from emails...
Monday, July 21, 2008, 07:52 PM

Dear Lucille
You wrote to Dear Webby who send you to me.
Okay, I give up. How do I get my nasty little signature off?
Identites and signature do not seem to hold the action. The
delete key is useless. Yes, I've learned my lesson and am very
humble. I raise pigs instead of kids. At least you can eat
them.

My Reply:

In OE got to TOOLS>OPTIONS>COMPOSE.
Scroll down to the bottom third of that screen.
In the Business Cards section, remove the check mark on MAIL.
Apply.

Let meknow...

Rosalie entered incorrect addie...
Monday, July 21, 2008, 02:01 PM
Dear Rosalie...

You wrote to Dear Webby and he fwd to me.

I have another question on my Outlook Express. I was forwarding my emails to a friend but she changed her email address - I deleted the old address and substituted the new one in my address book. For the past 3 wks - I have been getting a msg from Oulook Express that they show me every few minutes stating:
"this msg was not sent because there was a failure in the
address". How can I get rid of this annoying msg every few minutes? Thanks for your help. Rosalie

My reply:

You have entered an in-correct email address for you friend.
Until you enter the correct addie, this message will continue.

It is always a good idea when changing email addresses to send a new msg with new addie and REPLY TO CONFIRM in the subject line.

Once the reply has been received, then respond to it and automatically you have the correct email address in you address book.

A Thank you note from Bob & Marie
Saturday, July 19, 2008, 09:07 PM

Many thanks.
I feel rather foolish.
I did as you directed and checked my Sent folder and the links are active.

They seemed inactive when I was composing the email but were
active when they were sent.

Bob has no need to feel foolish - I am just glad I could help him.

Bob & Marie learning how to send links...
Saturday, July 19, 2008, 06:51 PM
Dear Bob/Marie

You wrote:
Hi
When I forward an email with links the links become inactive. Can you offer a fix.Bob

My reply:

They really shouldn't. Have you checked your sent folder to verify this observation?

If this continues, then click on the link and send it directly from the URL (universal remote locater) and remember to keep it under 64 characters. Otherwise include both full link and make a http://tinyurl.com
(you may have to copy/paste this link, then
bookmark it for further safety.)

JR says Thank you for inserting pix info and Red X
Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 07:20 PM
Thank you jr

Dear Jr Howdy
How to properly embed pictures so that
the pictures come through, instead of the gray squares. Or the small Red x Thanks jr

My Reply:

For the Red x:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843018

As for inserting pictures in emails...
IN OE go to TOOLS, Options: SEND!
In the middle portion you will see Mail Sending Format
make sure the HTML is marked and apply.
Next, create a new email and insert the picture of your choice.
Usually located in My Pictures.

Ann gets Gray Box and not pix because...
Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 07:17 PM

Dear Ann ... you wrote -

Hi Empress:

In today;s Humour Letter Helmut suggested someone write to you regarding how to get "the gray box instead or pictures" corrected. Could you please send me the answer also? Thanks so much. Namasta. Ann

My reply ... so far the only thing I have discovered from other list owners if the following is:
msn hotmail and webtv are killing images in emails

So if the pictures are coming from addies on msn, hotmail or webtv, then you will have grayed out pix.

Suggest these folks get gmail accounts.

Socet Error of February finally fixed
Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 07:36 PM

In February I wrote you about the following error message.......Finally got it fixed with the help of
SupportSpace.com (July 08 PCWorld page 75)

Simple solution since all settings were correct.
Tools/Accounts/Properties/Advanced.....the Port 25 is the 25 SMTP default number.....Change it to 587 ( I don't know why that is the magic number) . Both computers now work and mail can be sent from OE.

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E "

Thank you so much Elanor
