A Thank you note from Wendy
Monday, April 14, 2008, 02:20 AM
Thanks so much Empress. All mail is now stopped from going to
Outlook. I
did open a new account with Gmail, but can't wait to clean house
as I really
like allot of the features that you only get with Outlook.

Wendy wants to stop mail going to OE...

Dear Wendy

You wrote:

I have Comcast. web mail which downloads into Outlook when I
open Outlook's mail. It is getting full so I haven't been
opening or using this for a while. I need to know how to stop
the mail from transferring so I can go into Outlook and get
addresses and check on certain pieces of mail. Of cours, I need
to know how to reverse it when I get the time to get the mail
off Outlook.
Thanks for your help. Wendy

My reply:
I am not familiar with Comcast' house rules.
BUT...
I would try a few things, one at a time, to see which works best.
First, in OE, got to Tools, Options and General Tab:
remove any check marks in this portion.
APPLY.
This will give you time to go into OE and sort thru your inbox etc.
Second, get yourself a G-mail email account.
http://mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/en/about.html
If this does not appear as a hot-link, then copy/paste to your
browser.
Make sure you write down (u do remember how to use a pen) your
new g-mail addie.
Then back to OE!
Tools ACCOUNTS:
Under the MAIL tab: ADD the new g-mail addie and make it the
DEFAULT mailer.
To reverse it, just change the default mailer back to what you had!
Let me know ...

Dear Empress,

All of a sudden I noticed that my

find anything that refers to turning

Any help would be appreciated.Thank you,db

My reply:

Barring the possibility that you have NOT got an overcrowded OE because you are using it as a warehouse or that you do not have a corrupt .dll and have to reinstall Windows from the owners disk, the following link will give you another version of a Spell Check:

Script error appears in David's OE

Dear David:

You wrote...

Dear EE,

I use OE as my email client. When I try to open some messages I receive
script errors. Embarrassingly enough, I've been living with thisirritation
for nearly a year. I also have two other friends in exactly the same
situation.
The following is a copy of one of the error messages that were are
getting:

OE script error when opening email with script?

Internet Explorer Script Error

An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line: 29
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: mhtml:mid://00000146/

Do you want to keep running scripts on this page?

Any solutions you might offer will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Dave D in Duluth

My reply:

One setting change will cure this annoying problem!

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced >
Check 'Disable script debugging' (4th line down under browsing)

Socket error vs router
Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 03:03 PM
Thank you for trying to help.. I have checked all settings and they seem to be correct.,,, tho not sure about the Vista since it isn't as easy as the XP computer.... We have the same problem with 2 computers. Husband has new Dell XPS with Vista (I dislike Vista!) and I am on a 4 yr old Dell with Xp that has always been great (wired router). Neither of us can reply/send.......everything else is ok... Any other suggestions?
I now know the life history of the tech at Comcast, but we couldn't fix my problem. Looks like I'm going to have to pay the "Geek Squad"!
Love your OE anyway... I've learned a lot.

Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Dear Charlee

I can receive mail but cannot send . The following error message
comes up. It is different that the message mentioned in another
letter. Any suggestions. Comcast could not help. I tried to use
Comcast Home page Webmail...but it sends any incoming mail
directly to outlook after it is rec'd there.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.comcast.net',
Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

My reply:

Solution

You are on a an ISP that blocks their users from using any SMTP server other than their own. Your solution is as follows:

1. To setup your ISP's SMTP servers for your outgoing email, you must click on your account settings in the email client you are using.

2. In the SMTP (outgoing mail server) field, you will enter the SMTP server address for your ISP, such as smtp.yourisp.com. You must then enter the username and password for your ISPs mail server. For a list of ISPs and their SMTP server address, please click here.

3. In Outlook Express, this is at the bottom of that same tab. You must uncheck My server requires authentication and click on Settings to enter the username and password for your ISP.

Your email will still be from your own domain name, the only difference is in the way it is routed throughout the internet. Instead of being sent through our servers, it is processed through your ISP. This allows your ISP to monitor your email in case of a spam complaint.

Dear EE

I GOT AVAST AND INSTALLED IT .IT FOUND A BACKDOOR VIRUS. AND FIXED IT.

THANKS SO MUCH I CAN NOW FORWARD PICTURES WOW HOW NICE! YOU ARE GREAT THANKS AGAIN BILL
-----

Dear Bill

Have you run all of your anti-spyware and malaware programs, including Spybot and Avast?

Just how much do you have stored in OE. Anything more that .txt emails needs to get outta there.
So many folks use OE as a warehouse for all their emails. Too full and it will crash your computer.

All emails with pix, sound or pps attachments need to be saved to the desktop into other newly
created folders that can be added to My Documents OR DELETED.

Have you run Defrag off the Start menu; Programs; Accessories: system tools?
In OE have you done the maintenance routine and compressed all emails?

Good luck with this... hope something works for you.

N.B. it took many exchanges of emails to get Bill's problem resolved and he is now whistle clean. How clean is your machine?
